2012: International Year of the Bat

At a time when bats need it the most, with constant threats of habitat destruction and now White-nose Syndrome, a year long initiative called the Year of the Bat is raising bat awareness around the globe. As declared by the United Nations, 2012 is the Year of the Bat. The Organization for Bat Conservation and other organizations around the world have teamed up with Year of the Bat to raise awareness by hosting events and spreading the word about the importance of bats.

This global initiative is being undertaken by the Convention of the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS).
